Chapter Sixteen

Xavier

Why does Summit always insist on closing the bond and disappearing? Does she not realize how important she is to me? I grumble to myself as I make my way to Marcus' office. When she gets back, we will be having a long ass talk about her behavior, and she is not going to like it.

I stand in front of the imposing dark brown wooden door with a wolf howling at the moon on it. There seems to be a theme to these doors. I roll my eyes before knocking.

Knock, Knock

“Come in, Xavier,” Marcus calls out to me from the other side.

Well here goes nothing. I never thought mates were real. Now that I know they are, I am nervous as fuck about meeting Summit’s dad in private like this. I know our world is different in many ways, but it is still terrifying, even if I am an Alpha.

“I don’t have all night, Xavier. Now!” He growls. Fuck. Guess I was taking too long to open the door.

“Hello, Sir. Summit said you wanted to speak with me?” I look at Marcus, keeping my head raised, but ensuring my eyes are looking off to the side over his shoulder so as to not challenge him for dominance.

“Yes, yes take a seat, Son,” Marcus says as he motions to the chair in front of his desk.

I quickly move towards it hoping to get this conversation over with.

“I understand that you are my daughter’s mate,” Marcus states, getting straight to the point.

“Yes, Summit is my mate, Sir. I will care for her, protect her, and love her always. I will be her shoulder to lean on when she needs it. I will encourage her to continue to fight every day for her dreams. I will be there to cheer her on when she needs it, and to fight her battles when she can’t fight them herself. I will never stand in front of her or behind her, but at her side as her equal.” My voice stayed even as I answered him.

“You better, Son. Summit will be more than you'll ever know. I hope you are ready to step up to the plate for her.” Marcus stands up, placing his hands on the desk and leans towards me.

“You should also know,” he continues with a smirk, “you will have to share Summit with at least two other men. She was born to have multiple mates, just like her mother. No offense to you, Son, but she will need you all to face the Darkness.”

I sit there staring at him trying to understand what he just said. I should have guessed that someone as powerful as Summit would need to have multiple mates to help her magic. This won’t make me love her any less. I just hope I can get along with these other males.

“Understood, Sir. Do you happen to know who they are?” I ask, knowing it would be a long shot.

“I do not, but they will find her when they are meant to.
